But the figures that have that nice hidden articulation aren't the same style as McF figures.
McF has a very specific style that IMO, does not suit articulation.

some very good points...
but is it too much to ask for a new articulated Spawn once in a while?
3 or 4 lines of statues already...
throw me a friggin' bone, people!!
Enough with the cover figures already-- I'm sick of not wanting to buy McFarlane figures because the articulation isn't there anymore.

explain.
aren't Dark Ages a McF-style fig?
Sort of.
I think they've developed 2 distinct styles.
They have your S19 and S22 style figure body, and then everything else.
That's just how I look at it though. I can understand how you'd want more variety.
ah, I get ya.
and I know most of ya see the new style as progress.
I don't.
I'm not denying the amazing sculpts, either.
not in the least.
here's another thing...
one type of articulation that drives me batshit is the shoulder-tucking deal...like so...
this fig should have had ball-jointed shoulders, rather than the "leave a huge gaping hole in my back" deal that he has...
on this particular fig, it's not too bad, since the cape would normally cover it.
but on some figs...good Lord, it's just bad.

Sculpt for me. Poses are nice but frankly I'd spend all the articulation to get them in the pose they were stuck in in the first place. Articulation is nice on some figs, like
Kaiyodo, when they look good stylized and the articulation is actually useful but bigger, realistic figures like McF look best with better sculpting to me.

I like Spawn 3 with big swinging cape and glow up eyes.
I love Spawn 4. (Still the best IMO)
Spawn tenth is awesome.
But at the end it's cheaper to produce a figure with 6 useless points of articulation for production purposes, then it is to produce a figure with 20 points of articulation. It saves time in assemble, money on the tooling design, money on the engineering design, money on prototypes and etc...
I was in the design business with factories, and when we could put 2 less bolts on the final product, at the end all the spared bolts ended up saving alot of money.
But I will state it again, if McFarlane brings out a figure to the articulation and engineering standards of Kaiyodo and Yamato, and it will cost more, I really don't mind paying more!
Chaser, me too!
but the tucking shoulder thing, nope.
otherwise, it's one of the BEST Spawn figs out there. that kickass base doesn't hurt, either.
WLN, y'know, I don't begrudge the statue people their stuff, but it would be nice, once in a while, to see McF cater to the articulation fans.
doesn't have to be extreme amounts, or a whole line...
hell, 2 figs, with 8-10 points each, out of a 6-fig (+ box set) line would please me to no end.
ball-joint shoulders, hinged(?)elbows & knees, ball-joint neck, and hip movement (ball-joint, I guess).
that would be GREAT! and it's only 9, if I counted right.
and y'know those ball-joints that are kinda ratchety?
like, they click when ya move 'em?
those would solve the problem of joints going floppy.
other companies use them.
CO,
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I still believe sculpt, or bare minimal articulation saves money.
...you couldn't be more wrong if you tried, on that one.
...if we gave up on detail and made standard figures, the bodies would be made of ABS and the arms, legs and head would be held into the two halves by mushrooms. A far cheaper method of making figures.
...the sculpting would take a 3rd of the time that it takes us now.
...you would have none of the glued on pieces that make up the clothing and accessories. More pieces, more molds, more expense!
...you would have far less detail along with only swing joints. You'd be back in the Stone Age, like before McFarlane Toys came to be.
...PVC bodies allow you to do so much more than ABS bodies. By adding razor sharp detail and undercuts. Without PVC bodies, there would be no such thing as a ball joint.
...maybe you should come to NJ and I'll show you how and why these things are made the way they are.
